Adult Protective Services

County Adult Protective Services (APS) programs provide for the safety and protection of at-risk adults who are, or are suspected to be, victims of mistreatment.

The County APS programs:

  • Receive reports of mistreatment, which includes physical abuse, sexual abuse, caretaker neglect, exploitation and self-neglect,
  • Investigate allegations and conduct an assessment of the client’s strengths and needs, and
  • Arrange for needed services to reduce risk and improve safety.

To report Adult Abuse or Neglect, during business hours call (970) 542-3530 or toll free 833-785-4992, then select option 6.  After business hours, dial 9-1-1.

County Child Welfare Services programs provide a set of services that strengthen the ability of the family to protect and care for their own children, minimize harm to children and youth, and ensure timely permanency planning. Services stabilize the family situation and strengthen the family’s capacity to care for their children. When safety is not possible with the family, services focus on the child’s need for a stable, permanent home as quickly as possible.
